English Christian Democrats

Why don't the Tories become the "English Christian Democrats" - which is after all what they are?

A Saint George's Day Letter.

I am Proud to be English - A Saint George's Day Letter.

We should be aware of the greatness that England has been, still is and still can be.
......

If we can teach some of the soccer hooligans to sing "There's Only One Bertrand Russell!" as well as "There's Only One David Platt!" then perhaps we'll be on a our way to a solution to this kind of problem.

The greatness and richness of England......

poets like Chaucer, Dryden, Grey, Wordsworth, Shelley, Keats, Eliot...

philosophers like Bacon, Ockham, Hobbes, Locke, Mill, Midgeley, Dawkins...

writers like Dickens, Hardy, Lawrence, Huxley, Orwell..

scientists like Newton, Faraday, Rutherford, Hawking.....

political figures like Wat Tyler, Gerard Winstanley.....

artists like Turner, Gainsborough, Laurie....

Truth and Love will win out over hate and lies.

The English/British Empire ended in 1947, just as the Soviet Empire crumbled in 1989.

"Pravda a laska musi zvitevit nad lzi a nenavisti"

"Truth and Love will win out over hate and lies." Vaclav Havel.

From popular Czech poster 1989.
Speaking as an Englishman, I think the issue of Scottish independence is basically an issue of imperialism.
The same applies to any country outside England. The British Empire was essentially the English Empire.
Scotland, like so many other countries, should be independent as a matter of principle because it is a different country that was occupied by the English state over a period of many centuries.
I think the wishes of the English people are totally ignored in this question as in so many others.
I am by no means the only English person who believes that the English Empire should be ended on principle.

Why can't Englishness be left-wing?

Why does English patriotism and moderate nationalism have to always be linked to racism and the far right?

If Scottish nationalism is so acceptable, moderate and left-wing, why can't English nationalism be the same?

England has a rich and long history of left and anarchist radicalism. Why can't this be articulated through an English identity in some way?

Why does it seem to be so hard to be a progressive English patriot?

Is it really true that it is not possible to be a progressive patriot of any kind? Maybe so.

But freedom is always left-wing if you ask me, and freedom is denied to England and the English by the current U.K. constitution.

If you can be an anarchist for Scottish independence, why can't you be an anarchist for English independence?

The attempt to portray Englishness as ony capable of being right-wing in recent years has often been a Blairite smear to shore up the imperialist U.K.
Blair was power-hungry and a British nationalist.

It is British nationalism that is irredeemably right-wing, not English nationalism.

I prefer Eric Blair to Tony Blair.
